"Protection" refers to the ability to restrict non-curators or new or unregistered users from editing an individual page. Protection is used in case of chronic [[Gammapedia:vandalism|vandalism]], content disputes, or when a page simply does not need to be edited except by curators (i.e. policy pages like this one here). Protection may last indefinitely or for a specified time.
