Gammapedia:Gammasphere TCG/Prototype 3
Gammasphere Trading Card Game: Prototype 3 is the third prototype of the Gammasphere Trading Card Game. The game itself is somewhat of a hodgepodge of elements from other games, for example the battle system is related to that of Yu-Gi-Oh's.

The Deck and Types of Cards
There are three main types of cards:
- Entities, which can be characters, weapons, buildings, etc. These are limited to 4 per deck. Certain "unique" entities can only have one copy of themselves on the field at a time; if your opponent has a unique entity card in play you may not play a copy of it, and you may not have more than one copy of such an entity on your side of the field (although you may have up to 4 in your deck). The Effect is the text in the bottom center. This has an impact on gameplay and may either activate when the entity is played, based on a certain condition, or when the player activates it. Activated effects often require the entity to be tapped (turned sideways) and/or a cost (in Jiggawatts or Vespene Gas). Entities may have a Vespene Gas cost and/or a Jiggawatt cost. To pay a Jiggawatt cost, tap the required number of Pylons. Entities are further subdivided into these types of cards:
- Characters are the entities that you battle with. A chartacter has the following:
- Type, which can be a race ("Human") with additional things (occupation, caste, affiliation, etc). They are either placed in Attack Mode (facing the opponent) or Defense Mode (facing you).
- Attack Power is the strength of the character.
- Defense Power is the toughness of the character.
- Level is a numerical value between 1 and 10. Often the higher the level, the stronger the character.
- Attack Modifier is how much the attack increases by if the level is increased by 1, or decreases if the level is decreased. For example, a character at Lv. 5, attack of 2000, and attackmod of 300 will have an attack of 2600 at Lv. 7 or an attack of 1400 at Lv. 3. Attackmod is not neccesarily attack divided by level.
- Defense Modifier is like attack modfier, but for defense.
- Buildings are buildings. They have Type and Defense Power.
- Weapons are attached to Characters (and optionally Buildings). They provide boosts to the Character's Attack and Defense Power, and may optionally give it extra abilities.
- Characters are the entities that you battle with. A chartacter has the following:
- Pylons, which you must construct. Constructing an additional Pylon costs 100 Vespene Gas. You may have as many Pylon cards as you need in your deck. By tapping a Pylon (turning it sideways), you gain 1 Jiggawatt. Some cards need Jiggawatts in order to play them or use their effects. Tapped Pylons revert to their untapped state in the beginning of your next turn.
- Events, which when played have an effect that happens immediately. These usually have no Vespene Gas cost (only a Jiggawatt cost). You may have up to 4 of an Event card in your deck.
Pre-Game
- Each player starts off with 3000 units of Vespene Gas. By default each player gains 300 Vespene Gas a turn, however you can increase this by building more Refineries.
- Your Power Level starts off at 9000. It does not increase every turn. If this gets down to zero, you die (and lose).
- You start off with a hand of 7 cards. Your hand may not exceed 10 cards; if it does by the end of a turn, you are required to discard until it is 10.
Turn Cycle
- Draw a card.
- Gain 300 Vespene Gas (plus 300 more for each Refinery you have in play).
- You may play as many Entities, Pylons, and Events as you can afford, also you may attack during this phase. You may also switch as many Characters as you want between Attack and Defense Mode (characters who are tapped cannot be switched).
- When you have nothing else you desire to do, declare your turn over.
Attack Phase
When you declare an attack, select a Character on your side of the field that is:
- in Attack Mode
- untapped
and select a Character on your opponent's side of the field. After calculating the Attack of your attacking character:
If the defender is in Defense Mode
If the calculated Defense of the defender is lesser than the Attack of the your character, the defending character is destroyed. If the Defense is greater than the Attack, neither character is destroyed and your Power Level is decreased by the difference between defense and attack.
If the defender is in Attack Mode
If the calculated Attack of the defender is lesser than the Attack of the your character, the defending character is destroyed. If the Attack of the defender is greater than the Attack of your character, your character is destroyed and your Power Level is decreased by the difference between the characters' Attacks.
