The in crowd is a loosely-organized group of people made up of the popular, important people in an area that enjoys oppressing oppressing those they considered "out". Generally, in crowds share many characteristics:
- Usually, they are of the highest possible social class. In school terms, this can be applied to grade level - a high-school's in crowd is generally made up exclusively of 12th graders, although not all 12th graders are of the in crowd, and, very rarely, some of the in crowd can be of a lower class (usually 11, if anything).
- The in crowd consider themselves higher than all others. They look down on the hoi polloi with disgust, if not contempt. Some in crowders, however, use them to their own advantages by feigning a weak friendship with the out crowder, then backstabbing them with rumors and rude comments (usually behind their back).
