The file as seen in the mIRC folder

w32.sobig.irc.dll is a pointless trojan for mIRC created on June 16, 2006 by Izwzyzx. It forces the victim to disconnect from the server when a certain trigger word is recieved via irc's Notice command.

It is pointless because Izwzyzx could just use the /kill command without going through all the troubles of getting people to manually set up a trojan.

Uninstallation and removal

The trojan can be removed with the following steps:

  • type /unload -rs w32.sobig.irc.dll in mIRC
  • delete the w32.sobig.irc.dll file
