Administrator

Administrators are the owners of an Internet forum. They make all policies and rules, and hire other administrators or moderators to enforce said rules. They have total control over the forum, including user profiles. An honorable administrator abides by the rules he/she has created, and doesn't consider him/herself above them.

Powers of an Administrator

Administrators, while having the abilities of a moderator, have a more extensive list of powers:

• Lock threads, should the discussion veer off topic or break the rules in some way
• Edit posts, to remove inappropriate material
• Move threads from one area to another
• Delete posts or entire threads
• Editing user's profiles, including avatar and signature, to remove inappropriate material
• Banning a user, either temporarily or permanently, from the forums.
• Establishing new boards or categories
• Promoting other users to moderator or administrator status
• Managing the smiley and word censor lists; they can add new smilies or word censors as they see fit
• DELETING user accounts; this cannot be undone, so administrators rely on banning to get rid of unwanted users

Some forums give the administrator the power to peek into other users' private message boxes. If this is the case, there will be a notice.
